Whalers Lodge, (sleeps max. 6) is an absolute treasure. An original glamorous Caribbean home perched on stilts in front of the ocean. This villas bedrooms and terraces overlook the Grenadines and desert islands off shore, on the southern coast of Bequia. Quiet and very romantic with a fantastic cliff side location this villa is a prefect honeymoon retreat.
This four bedroom house is lovingly kept and has the finest of furnitures. From the big teak loungers to highly polished silver trinkets..no time is spared in making this a very special home. You will find furniture and antiques from all corners of the globe, beautiful linens and utterly un spoilt views.
Caribbean gingerbread architecture, high ceilings, wooden floors and high standards of luxury are signature to this quiet, secluded property.
A large covered verandah envelops the front of the house on the upper level with two areas to sit, eat or drink and an authentic wooden bench upon which cool breezes whisper and small birds sing 'Bequia Sweet Sweet'
On a lower level, another veranda and large garden terrace is adorned with Italian garden furniture and an elegant outdoor dining area. A green lawn, tropical flowers and Venetian pots adorn the surrounding garden.
Just a few steps closer to the rocks away is the jacuzzi and barbecue deck from where one can hear the calming sounds of the sea below and enjoy views of unparalleled beauty. A covered gazebo style area in the corner is somewhere to serve lunch and drinks.
Friendship and Moon Hole beaches are near by ( 5 minutes bus/drive) South easterly facing beaches - protected swimming bays.Moon Hole's sparkling white sand and stunning views to the southern Grenadines make it one of the most beautiful beaches on Bequia and it is as yet, barely discovered.

Beach & Garden
Whalers Lodge is a 5 minute drive from the Moon Hole peninsular a 50 acre site at the southern tip of Bequia maintained as a nature reserve. The beach here is very quiet and secluded perfect for shell collecting. You will probably be the only ones on the beach every day of your holiday if you chose this as your beach! Reached by dusty track it is a hidden treasure on Bequia.
Friendship Beach is 10 minutes drive away a quiet, reef protected beach, ideal for swimming. Views across to Mustique and the smaller Grenadine islands. At the far end of the beach there is a laid back beach bar with swinging bar chairs and a great restaurant.
Lower Bay and Princess Margaret beaches are 15 minutes by car. SCUBA shops, markets etc in Port Elizabethare 10 min drive.
Restaurants
There is one fantastic restaurant and beach bar with in within 10 minutes drive at Friendship Bay. Barbecued chicken, breadfruit and salads are available from local eating establishments with in 10 minutes walk from the house. Over 25 more restaurants are within 15 minutes drive away.
Arrival and Stay details
An open style taxi meets you at Bequia airport and it is a five-minute coastal drive to Whalers Lodge.
The cottage is hidden on its 1/2 acre site. A stretch of wooden fencing runs a huge length along the road that links the airport to the islands five swimming beaches. There are no steps to enter the house where you meet the frist three bedrooms, living room and kitchen. The Jacuzzi is on a lower deck reached via steps or down across the garden. Your bags will be taken to your rooms while you enjoy refreshing cocktails on the balcony in front of the living room.
A meal is prepared for your arrival and groceries ordered will have been packed away. The best local foods are Creole fish, jerk chicken, lobster, red snapper, black eye peas and rice, plantain, breadfruit and salt fish, spiced pumpkin and fruits are abundant. The neighbouring island St. Vincent has very rich and fertile soil. A ferryboat brings fresh produce each day.
At the house your housekeeper Dorothy visits twice weekly to clean and launder. She lives close by and will do everything to make your stay relaxing and fun.
Within 20 minutes drive from the house are tennis courts, scuba shops, a hobie cat sailing school, deep seas fishing charters, reggae rum shops, casual cafes and restaurants. Other fun and interesting islands; Mustique, St. Vincent, Canouan, Union, Tobago Cays. There are waterfalls, Disney film locations, 32 islands and cays of the Grenadines to explore, excellent reef snorkelling, exotic bird species, batik boutiques, animal sanctuaries and in St. Vincent the oldest botanical gardens on the western hemisphere.
Staff
Your housekeeper and accomplished cook both work 6 days per week. They are available on Sunday afternoons too.
