Villa Description

Dragonfly is a private retreat on the small Caribbean island of Bequia in the nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. The house has three bedrooms, a double with a king size four poster bed and two twin bedrooms, all with en-suite bathrooms, sleeping six people comfortably. Dragonfly is a three minute walk to Lower Bay Beach widely thought of as the best swimming beach in the Eastern Caribbean. Being near the equator the island has year round sunshine throughout.

All the rooms lead out onto the partly covered terrace in Bequia stone which overlooks the bay below. The house is surrounded by a landscaped, fenced garden, home to frangipani, lime, bougainvillea and sapodilla. At night guests have a choice of dining outside by the light of hanging wicker baskets and the fireflies in the garden, or eating indoors around the long coffee table in the air conditioned living room.

bedrooms

The new master bedroom boasts a beautiful hand-carved king size four poster bed. The twin bedrooms have two large single beds which slot together to form king sized double bed.All the sheets and towels (including beach towels) are supplied at the house. The bedrooms have lamps for reading, fans for keeping cool, and radios for catching up on the local reggae. There are mosquito nets hanging over the beds for the rainy season and coils of incense to burn.

LOCATION

The house is on the hillside, facing west with wonderful 180 degree views over the Caribbean Sea, and in the evening the ever-changing colours of the sun going down over the far horizon. A three minute walk brings you down to the gently lapping water's edge. As going back up is quite steep we recommend you rent a jeep for getting around the island, also perfect for whizzing up and down the hill for the less energetic.

What would you like to do first?
Patrick Hepburn, our driver and manager of Dragonfly Villa at Lower Bay, is keen for us to have a good first impression of the island. The usual procedure of checking into accommodation and meeting staff is bypassed for a trip straight to the beach. Patrick has brought towels and a hamper of iced drinks to the delight of my chirping team in the back seat.

Actually he's brought everything you'd need to survive on the beach all week. Fold up beach beds, umbrella for virgin flight white skin and a hamper of fresh fruit. Do we need to check in at all? Apparently not. Patrick is taking our luggage to the house for the maid to unpack. Lower Bay is a half-mile crescent of clean white sand. This afternoon it's all ours to share with an old Rastafarian fisherman and his children. On a small promontary over looking Lower Bay to one side and Princess Margaret Beach to the other is The Retreat.
The house sleeps six and will provide a chef if required. You can walk to either of the Grenadines finest beaches in less than a minute."
