Beach & Garden
The Anthony Eden Villa is located 40 yards from the waters' edge just above the sheltered Friendship Bay, on the South Eastern coast of Bequia. A gradually stepped path leads to the beach on the north side of the house. The cottage is set on 1/4 acres which makes a lovely shaded garden below the house behind the beach. You will find yourselves the only guests on Friendship Beach most days. Friendship bay is a quiet, reef protected and ideal for swimming. Idyllic ocean-island views across to Mustique and the smaller Grenadine islands. At the end of the beach there is a laid back beach bar with swinging bar chairs and a great restaurant..
In front of the living room before the beach there is a large stone built barbecue and patio area. The owner has built a new house further down on the beach to the north side of the bay where he often stays and also rents to guests.
Friendship Beach faces Mustique and small off shore islands. Moon Hole, another sparkeling white beach great for snorkeling and shell collecting is close by. Lower Bay and Princess Margaret are 10 minutes by car. Moon hole Beach is a 3 min drive. Lower Bay and Princess Margaret Beach are 10 min drive. 5 minute drive to Scrimshaw Gallery. 10 minute drive/ 5 minute walk to Paradise SCUBA school, Port Elizabeth Harbour (shops and markets) is a 7 min drive.
Restaurants
There is one fantastic restaurant and beach bar with in within easy walking distance along the beach. Over 25 more restaurants are within 10 minutes drive away.
Arrival and Stay details
An open style taxi meets you at Bequia airport and it is a ten-minute coastal drive to Anthony Eden. Transfers are complimentary.
The cottage is hidden with in a three-acre coconut grove. A stretch of wooden fencing runs a huge length along the road that links the airport to the islands five swimming beaches. There are ten steps down to the and you enter the house on upper floor and chose bedrooms two king size bedrooms.. Your bags will be taken to your rooms while you enjoy refreshing cocktails on the beach patios in front of the living room.
A meal is prepared for your arrival and groceries ordered will have been packed away. You can plan menu with your cook or leave her to prepare delicious meals from her won menu; local food, excellent pastas, barbecues etc. The best local foods are Creole fish, jerk chicken, black eye peas and rice, plantain, breadfruit and salt fish, spiced pumpkin and fruits are abundant. The neighbouring island St. Vincent has very rich and fertile soil. A ferryboat brings fresh produce each day.
At the house you have a cook and daily maid 6 days per week. They live close by and will do everything to make your stay relaxing and fun. Zoe the house manager will spoil you with menus of local and Western delights for breakfast and lunch and will happily arrange for dinner at home for you too. Grocery shopping and baby sitting services are also available.
Two large bedrooms are ocean facing. Both have high ceilings and are furnished with locally made wooden frame beds, dressing tables and beautiful English linens.
The living room is very spacious and opens onto a south easterly facing veranda which stretches across the front of the house. Steps then lead from then house to meet the pristine Friendship beach and local Friendship beach bar and restaurant. The kitchen is off the living room and is always open for your use.
Laundry here is done once a week by hand. If you need more than this just mention to the housekeeper who will be able to do personal laundry in house or at a laundry in the haroubr. I suggest you tip US$ 5 per load for laundry in house.
Within 10 minutes drive from the house are 5 more swimming beaches, tennis courts, scuba shops, a hobie cat sailing
school, windsurfing school, deep sea fishing charters, the Bequia turtle sanctuary, colonial relics of forts and guns, batik boutiques, museums, art galleries, book shops, reggae rum shops, and over 25 restaurants and cafes.
Take eco tours to St. Vincent for spectacular waterfalls, rainforest hikes and the oldest botanical gardens on the western
hemisphere. Boat tours or sport fishing to other islands, Disney film locations, 32 islands and cays of the Grenadines to explore, including Mustique, Canouan, Union, Petit St. Vincent, Tobago Cays for excellent reef snorkelling, exotic aquatic and bird species and beautiful yachts plying the ocean.
Staff
Your housekeeper and accomplished cook / house manager work 6 days per week. They are available on Sunday afternoons too. The chef prepares breakfast and lunch daily for guests.
A gardener comes Monday to Friday in the morning to look after the beach and gardens for you.
